Having a positive environment encourages excellent learning. In the "New Learning Culture" video, three important points are mentioned to create a positive learning environment. The first point is passion, a very powerful feeling. In order to be successful you have to do things with passion and dedication. In the video it is mentioned that if there is passion in what you do, nothing can stop you, no matter the obstacles. The second point is imagination. In the video we can see that this question represents the world. How many things could you change using only your imagination? Imagination is the ability to produce and simulate new objects, sensations, and ideas in the mind without any immediate input from the senses. Imagination is something that we should all always have in use. With our imagination we can create things and put them into practice. The third point is constraint, which means setting yourself the most difficult challenges. Many times, we encounter many obstacles or limits along our journey. These obstacles or limits often give us the necessary strength to overcome adversity and achieve our goals.
Dr. H at the beginning of the video mentions that we all want change, but no one wants to change. I agree with his thinking since it is common in our society to be tired of “the same thing” in many aspects; However, it is also common to sit around complaining or wanting things to change by doing the same thing that is wrong. It is even common in our society for those who sit still to criticize those who stop doing the same to seek change. As teachers we must understand that we must change. We must understand that in the times we live in today, they are not the same as they were 10 or 15 years ago. Our students are used to totally different things.
I am currently a Parent Liaison at a bilingual elementary school. Day by day I deal with different types of parents and all ages. This implies that many raise their children according to what they learned in their different countries. Due to this factor, it is important that students receive the necessary tools that provide opportunities for a new learning culture to emerge and in this way be able to take them to the desired level of learning.
