After watching Jeni Cross's TED video we can see how our greatest adversary is common sense. In this video the three myths that exist regarding behavior change are discussed. It emphasizes that the way we present things has an impact on human beings. Messages have to be directed to a specific audience to achieve change. It also tells us that we have to change attitudes to change behaviors. Finally, it tells us about how society's norms influence people. When we use social norms and see that someone follows them it has a great impact on the behavior of others. We can be successful, but we will be less successful if we let ourselves be guided by common sense and do not seek to be models of the changes we want to achieve.
Social norms have a great influence on behavior and how we communicate with others. These help us improve our attitudes, promote better values through compliance with the rules and attitudes towards other people in general.
As for my change project, my goal is to improve the teaching of the subjects that make up STEM in elementary school. The desired results would be greater focus on subjects, clubs or activities that promote the program at an early age and that students can have as much information as possible so that when they go to Middle School they can be fully in the program.
By encouraging the introduction of new strategies and ideas to achieve the desired change, I will be applying the six sources of influence, which I understand will be of great benefit when it comes to having the support and attention necessary to meet the goal.
