Usability Test and Reflection

When you conduct a usability test, your primary goals are to:

1) Determine whether testers can successfully complete tasks independently.

2) Evaluate their performance and mental state during task completion to gauge the effectiveness of your design.

3) Measure the level of enjoyment users experience while using it.

Additionally, usability tests offer the advantage of providing direct feedback from real users, helping to identify potential issues and areas for improvement in the design process.

Guiding questions:

  1. Reflecting on the usability test participants:

    • Reflecting on who participated in the usability testing, I enlisted two teaching colleagues (Loanna Oliveras and Ashley Delgado), a school director (Mayra Morales), and a teacher from another school (Ivelisse Santiago). These individuals were chosen because they hold pivotal roles in the implementation and approval process of the course. While they were the right choices, I acknowledge that timing could have been better coordinated. Future improvements would involve initiating the request with more lead time, considering the busy schedules of teachers during exam periods and end-of-year tasks.

  2. Impact of the platform on usability testing:

    • Using Canva as the platform for the course positively influenced the usability testing process due to its user-friendly interface and accessibility.3- Lessons learned from feedback on usability testing:

      • Feedback from the usability test prompted adjustments to the menu structure to ensure consistency in sequence. Additionally, a visually appealing banner was added to the Home page to enhance its attractiveness and engagement.

  3. Addressing usability issues in the design:

    • To address the usability issues identified during testing, improvements were made to the menu layout for better organization, and a banner was incorporated into the Home page for added visual appeal.

  4. Impact on the course and student experience:

    • The adjustments made as a result of the usability testing have enhanced the overall course experience by improving navigation and coherence within the modules.

  5. Impact on activity alignment and evaluation:

    • Usability testing has positively influenced the alignment of activities and evaluation of results by prioritizing student benefit and facilitating easier navigation.

  6. Addressing infrastructure and support needs:

    • In response to potential infrastructure, system, and support issues faced by students, avenues for assistance have been established. Students encountering difficulties can reach out via email or utilize chat support for timely assistance and resolution.
